I am amazed at how much I understand my teaching philosophy. I was not sure how to separate the way I was trained to teach outside of MHC in charters schools, Success Academy and Achievement First and the way I wanted to teach and often found myself doing irregardless of the designated lesson plans. I am a progressive teacher rooted in social justice and mindfulness. I believe education is a path to liberation and teaching is a ministry. One I feel I was called to and am humbled by my effectiveness in building relationship with students.
I realize I am progressive but the schools in which I have taught are traditional. We do not share the same core values in how to education children, and with this knowledge I knew it was not time for me to leave the profession but find a progressive school and make sure that diversity and inclusive matters to all staff. This is allow me to feel safe and valued in the environment.
