I have drawn tremendous amount of validation from the articles and narratives of other Teachers of Color. Online social groups such as Black Teachers Matter on Facebook and reading Jose Vilson’s and connections has allowed for me to connect with like minded Teachers, who believe teaching is a tool for liberation. I began to feel less and less afraid to speak my truth. As a result, I felt less isolated and threatened by my truth that I wanted to share and actively find solutions.
I attended Jose Vilson’s talk at Mount Holyoke in my old home, the Reese Psychology Building virtually. During the talk I asked him if he can recommend a micro resistance for a Black female teacher experiencing microaggressions. He suggested writing down feedback. First, I did not think of writing as a micro resistance but it helps teachers regain ownership of their progress. Thereafter, I documented more of my feedback on voice notes on days I felt too tired to write.
